DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Department of Physical Education functions under the 2 Physical Directors Mr.T.Dhilipan Raj & Mrs.Sheela in Sir Issac Newton College of Arts and Science.
Infrastructure
The department offers adequate infrastructure facilities for games and sports such as
► Volleyball Court with Flood light ► Basketball court with Flood light ► Football Field ► One Cricket field ► 400 Meters Standard Track with raised border ► Throw Ball Court ► Indoor Stadium (To Play Badminton ,Table Tennis and Chess) ► Ball Badminton Court ► Two Synthetic Tennis Court (under proposal)
In addition to these facilities, the department has admitted top ranking players and athletes under sports quota from all faculties. The students have brought laurels, name and fame to the university at zonal and national level. In addition to that the assistant professors also provide coaching for ball badminton, table tennis, chess, badminton and other sports.
Activities
► Our College teams have earned the following awards and accolades
► Volleyball (Men) – The zonal champions for 8 years, national champions for 5 years and runners up for 3 years, in the Inter University Competition
► Volleyball (Women) – Our women volleyball players have also performed well. Every year, the team qualifies at zonal level to go for All India Inter University Competition.
► Chess – Many Students have represented and won prizes at the Level of Zonal and State Championships.
► Table Tennis- Zonal winner (Men) and Second Position at National level
► Cricket – Our Cricket Team Zonal Winner and District Second and Third Position. Many of them represented Tamil Nadu and participated in Trophy Level
► Football - The team secured first position, representing Nagapattianam (DT) in the District Trophy and received the cash award of Rs .10,000/-(Ten Thousand ) in the year 2015
► The department is also planning to start professional courses like B.P,Ed, from the Academic year 2021 onwards.
